Post Feminism

Post Feminism - When females believe that they can do what males do and do it better than them.

In the film 'Fight Plan', post feminism is shown through the character Jodie Foster and in the soap Hollyoaks, post feminism is shown through the character Jacqui Mcqueen. 'Fight Plan':

* Jodie is represented as a post feminist character in the film as she is more independent. This is shown through her looking after her daughter at the beginning of the film where she is helping her daughter herself and being a mother figure and also a father figure to her daughter.

* Jodie is represented as strong as during the film she behaves like a male character. For example, this is shown when Jodie is explaining to her daughter she is a aeroplane enginer. By this, it is as if Jodie is comparing herself to males as she can do a job role which is mainly suitable for males.

* Also, the way that Jodie dresses makes her character seem like she is a tom boy. For example, in the film Jodie wears trousers and a long coat which connotes her as more masculine. She also ties her hair back which makes her be represented as not having a feminist side to her.

'Hollyoaks':

* In the soap, Jacqui is represented as a more masculine character. For example, Jacqui is shown as a aggresive character as she is always getting in to fights with males and females. This results to males being scared of her and by this Jacqui is presenting herself as a masculine character.

* In the soap, Jacqui always dresses as a female but her personality is the complete opposite of her dressing as she is more like a tom boy by the way shes always getting in to fights and her language is rude and aggresive which a typical male would be expected to talk like and females are not stereotyped to talk like that.

* Jacqui also represents herself as independent as she does not like to rely on other people but likes to do everything herself. For example, when she needs to go shopping, rather than borrowing money she goes out and steals which is not how females are usually represented.

Overall . . .

This shows that the characters of Jacqui and Jodie is extremly similar in the two media texts. However, Jodie dresses how she behaves whereas Jacqui dresses more like a female but behaves like a male. This connotes that Jacqui has more of a split personality but Jodie is seen as one person with one personality. Also, when Jodie is shown in the film, the mise en scene usually involves different props that would help Jodie behave more like a male and take part in activities that involve action. For example, Jodie carries a glass breaking weapon as when she is looking for her daughter, she breaks open a cars windscreen which also shows that she thinks more like a male. This shows that the audience would be able to see the two female characters as creating post feminism which would be a change to typical soaps and films where males are seen as more better and superior. The audince would then watch these kind of programmes for personal identity according to the uses and Gratifications theory as the audience will be able to watch media texts related to them.

Find quotes (with references) about the institution.
Tom Anderson, the president of MySpace said that Myspace was "a place for friends".
In the past, other social networking sites like MySpace have locked users into their own site and jealously guarded each member's content. MySpace's boss Chris DeWolfe said that these "walls around the garden are coming down."
Travis Katz, the managing director of MySpace said that "We may be the second largest provider of video clips on the internet but we are a community site first and a video site second."

Linked Wikipedia articles:
According to the above article, Myspace is now the most popular site in the United States of America.Hitwise states that MySpace overtook Google's popular search engine, and Yahoo's mail service as America's most visited website. The article also informs the reader that MySpace now has a "winning market share" (80%) from other social networking sites such as Facebook (which comes in with 7.6% the social network travel).According to this article, MySpace "was an absolute bargain when NewsCorp brought it for $580 million" and that Bebo's rejection of $552 million offer now seems completely reasonable.
This website article stated that the cuts in workforce made by MySpace brought the total number of their staff to 1,000.The site compared this to Facebook who, as of May, had about 850 employees worldwide, the majority of whom were in the US.According to the article, MySpace's user base had stagnated at about 125 million worldwide users, while Facebook's usage has doubled to more than 200million in less than a year."I'm a big believer in personalization," Van Natta said then at a technology conference in Carlsbad, Calif. "Our job is to make MySpace really, really great for everybody, and that means that the experience has to be different for everybody."The article also informs the reader that News Corp. has said MySpace is unusual for a social-networking site in that it is profitable, but noted that ad revenue in the quarter through March fell 16 percent and costs rose due to last fall's rollout of MySpace Music, a song-streaming joint venture with major recording companies.

Self Evaluation =)

For mine and Aqeel's video, we recieved very similar feedback from the class. We receievd a mixture of Level 4's, 3's and 2's and none level 1's. This means that our video is at a level 4/3/2 at the moment. We found that in our feedback most people gave us Level 3 for Aesthetics and very few gave us Level 4. This shows that we are working towards Level 4 on Aesthetics as we gained a mixture of these two levels. This also connotes that in order to get a Level 4 we need to work more on making the video well formed and set out. Our feedback also showed us that our video was very creative in the classes opinion. This was because for Creativity we received many Level 4's and very little Level 3's. This means that our video is very creative as we used a range of images to get the point across and also used music which is connected to the internet. From our feedback, we found that our soundtrack was liked by the majority of the class due to it going with the video as it was related to the internet which was also mentioned in the 'WWW'. However, the majority of the class chose our 'EBI' to be to slow down the edits so that the information could be read which meant that our edits were too fast which shows that we need to improve when editing the edits to ensure that they are a normal pace so that the audience can read it properly.

Internet User && Television Viewer

The difference between a internet user and a television viewer is that a internet user is able to communicate with people in different ways. For example, a internet user is able to communicate 'one to one', 'many to many', and 'one to many' whereas a television viewer is not able to communicate as much as a internet user. Also, a internet user is able to choose what they would like to do on the internet which includes what songs to listen to, what videos to watch and etc whereas a television viewer is shown certain programmes at certain times which means that a television viewer is not given a choice as to when they can watch their programmes but they will need to tune in on a certain time to be able to watch the programme they want. This shows that by being a internet user, people are provided with more choices as to what they want to do and when they want to do it whereas a television viewer is not.
I believe that I am more active online and this is because when I am on the internet I am able to do what I want and when I want to do it. For example, I am able to watch the programmes I have missed on the internet at any time of the day and also download music which I will be able to have on my computer saved and listen to it whenever I want which I would not be able to do on the television. Also, on the internet I feel more involved as I am able to decide myself what I would like to do and when.
