Guardian 100

1. The Guardian 100 is the "biggest shakedown" in which there is a world where print journalists have become podcasters, video on demand has replaced the video casserre and two year old meadia start ups sell for $1.65bn. The most successful people. The panellists are:
  • Lord Waheed Alli - Chair man of entertainment content.

  • Daisy McAndrew - Chief political correspondant for ITV news.

  • Jamie Kantrowitz - Senior vice-president of marketing and content for MySpace.com.

  • Richard Park - Executive director of Chrysalis Radio parent Global Radio.

  • Sarah Sands - Consultant editor of the Daily Mail.

  • James Scroggs - Vice-president, consumer business of SpinVox, the voice-to-screen messaging company.

  • Janine Gibson - Executive editor of Guardian Unlimited and editor-in-chief of MediaGuardian.

  • Matt Wells - Editor of MediaGuardian and presenter of the Media Talk podcast.

Post Feminism

Post Feminism - When females believe that they can do what males do and do it better than them.

In the film 'Fight Plan', post feminism is shown through the character Jodie Foster and in the soap Hollyoaks, post feminism is shown through the character Jacqui Mcqueen. 'Fight Plan':

* Jodie is represented as a post feminist character in the film as she is more independent. This is shown through her looking after her daughter at the beginning of the film where she is helping her daughter herself and being a mother figure and also a father figure to her daughter.

* Jodie is represented as strong as during the film she behaves like a male character. For example, this is shown when Jodie is explaining to her daughter she is a aeroplane enginer. By this, it is as if Jodie is comparing herself to males as she can do a job role which is mainly suitable for males.

* Also, the way that Jodie dresses makes her character seem like she is a tom boy. For example, in the film Jodie wears trousers and a long coat which connotes her as more masculine. She also ties her hair back which makes her be represented as not having a feminist side to her.

'Hollyoaks':

* In the soap, Jacqui is represented as a more masculine character. For example, Jacqui is shown as a aggresive character as she is always getting in to fights with males and females. This results to males being scared of her and by this Jacqui is presenting herself as a masculine character.

* In the soap, Jacqui always dresses as a female but her personality is the complete opposite of her dressing as she is more like a tom boy by the way shes always getting in to fights and her language is rude and aggresive which a typical male would be expected to talk like and females are not stereotyped to talk like that.

* Jacqui also represents herself as independent as she does not like to rely on other people but likes to do everything herself. For example, when she needs to go shopping, rather than borrowing money she goes out and steals which is not how females are usually represented.

Overall . . .

This shows that the characters of Jacqui and Jodie is extremly similar in the two media texts. However, Jodie dresses how she behaves whereas Jacqui dresses more like a female but behaves like a male. This connotes that Jacqui has more of a split personality but Jodie is seen as one person with one personality. Also, when Jodie is shown in the film, the mise en scene usually involves different props that would help Jodie behave more like a male and take part in activities that involve action. For example, Jodie carries a glass breaking weapon as when she is looking for her daughter, she breaks open a cars windscreen which also shows that she thinks more like a male. This shows that the audience would be able to see the two female characters as creating post feminism which would be a change to typical soaps and films where males are seen as more better and superior. The audince would then watch these kind of programmes for personal identity according to the uses and Gratifications theory as the audience will be able to watch media texts related to them.
